Punched by Gravity

Some statements are meant to be heard at certain times in your existence. I had one such moment recently and it felt like I got punched in the brain. The very words stayed with me all day and I couldn’t shake them. They remained like a fragmented echo of a melody heard once, however in this scenario you were only moved by the smallest portion of the melody.

The subject was gravity on the latest episode of Star Talk with Neil deGrasse Tyson. In it he was describing the relationship between Matter and Space; Dr. Tyson uses a quote by physicist John Wheeler.

Matter tells space how to curve…Space tells matter how to move.”

I found this statement to be incredibly poetic. However, in a flash I thought of curves, movement, dance, motion, weight and space. It was about so many thing at that precise moment. Who knew I’d like getting punched.

Back To School

While I recognize the changes that occur in my life around the month of September are major shifts, I can’t help the feeling of running head first into the truth….. that I am an adult. Maintaining stability in two art based professions while dealing with parental and husbandly duties, is a total shift from the summer schedule of stay at home dad while checking off items listed on my “honey do/due list”.

Having met my “honey do” goals, and satisfied the unicorn adventures with my kid. I now feel the focus of the other parts of my existence starting to flower. At home I get to watch football. As a teacher I go back to my favorite cup to sip coffee out of and listen to copious amounts of Beethoven for our Romantic Music Unit. Finally there is the constant wonderment on seeing the stars.

Finding those little moments within my work and home duties, seems to be the fun at this point. Almost like stealing a single serving point of personal enjoyment while being an adult.

Fascinating Things

I was told today that I have a “child like fascination with everything related to space”. I took a moment to think about it and came to the conclusion that this person was right. Soon after I felt good about the nice way I was called a geek. It’s been a while since that’s happened with someone that was not married or related to me. But with a picture like this… can you blame me!
